we are a southern kitchen on a local mission.
Hope Heroes was born out of a sustainability strategy focused on developing the verticals and supply channels of a fast-casual restaurant brand that will engage and create community while addressing the growing crisis of food insecurity among seniors, families, vets and children in our area.
Our belief is that people love to eat and major decisions are made around a meal in our culture. So we imagined, what if we connected "Doing Good" with "Eating Good" and through this fusion of Altruism and necessity; we built a sustainable, restaurant model that will fight food insecurity.
WHAT'S IN A NAME
The word H-O-P-E is an acronym for Helping Other People Eat! All we do and all that we plan to do will have this mission in mind: Helping Other People Eat! For us, the word Heroes is defined as anyone that joins the food fight, by food fight we mean eliminating food insecurity in our community. Our grand vision is zero food insecurity for our targeted populations.
WHO WE ARE
HOPE Heroes is NOT a nonprofit organization. We are a social enterprise that believes in making a difference and doing good while earning revenues that support our target population and beyond, supports the operational mission, and support the families of the people that serve every day.
We are legally structured as a Virginia Benefits Corporation.

We have been married for 25 years and have two children (Best Kids Ever)! We have been business owners together since March 2003 and have inspired and operated several food-based initiatives throughout this region. Our lives have always been about serving causes greater than ourselves! We believe that the very essence of life is based on your ability to love the world around you! Dee and I hold three business degrees combined. Our background in food operations started with one of my first jobs at Taco Bell, operating a food truck at Alexander's Antique Auctions and the "two-street" festivals in Richmond. We have managed and operated everything from small cafes to sports concessions. In Richmond, VA, we were hired to help relocate, up-fit and launch "Ginger Restaurant" in Carytown (Richmond). This restaurant still operates well today. Additionally, we led and developed educational food facilities, and led the construction of a 65,000 s.f. multi-purpose facility with a commercial kitchen, full-service concession, and cafe in the 9th district of Richmond.
We have always been missional people! Loving our neighbors, caring for our community, and serving causes greater than ourselves. Beyond the daily commitment we have to our family and our neighbors; we have seen the psychological & physical trauma caused when children and families are food insecure.
Our target population is working families that will NOT qualify for federal and state assistance. They are forced to make choices between filling their fridge or putting gas in their cars, buying much-needed prescriptions or buying groceries or simply meal skipping for days to keep food in the mouth of their children.
We know that HOPE Heroes will rise from within our community and engage with our restaurant brand designed to make a difference! We know that every day folks will converge to "Buy-A-Bowl" and hopefully "Give-A-Bowl". We know that this Southern Kitchen on a local mission of fighting food insecurity is an answer that will create a sustainable economy of HOPE for so many that feel forgotten, neglected and unseen.
3-5% of our profits go to The Hub of Hope, Inc. which started in the middle of the pandemic. However, we actually give much more than that through our paid staff working together to pack and serve meals and through our food management cycles which allow us to refresh, reserve and release many high quality food items to the community. HOPE, of course, stands for helping other people eat. Their target population are individuals/families earning just above the poverty level and often make too much to qualify for state or local assistance. Many of these families are making decisions between paying a bill or buying groceries. Families and individuals facing food insecurity can request meals from the Hub of Hope on the website, through their social media, or by calling them directly. Last year alone, we served more than 53,000 meals to those in need.
Our FIRE burns deeper than the kitchen! It burns inside of us! We are HOPE Heroes, we all can be heroic!
